From the Times-Call photo archive via Longmont Museum: “The lengthy conveyor belt used to transport gravel from the mine to six 500-ton silos, which straddle a railroad track at the Western Paving and Construction Company’s mining facility two miles east of Lyons, was given its first full test this morning. The conveyor system is capable of transporting over 3,000 tons of gravel per day.” Originally published Dec. 9, 1974.
